Chicago Deep Dish Pizza

Chicago, IL, USA

The Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza is perhaps the most famous food in Chicago.

For those who don’t know what a Deep Dish Pizza is… it’s a pizza cooked in a deep dish, with high edges, with large amounts of cheese and pizza sauce, and an almost pie-type crust. These pizzas take a minimum of 40 minutes to cook at most pizzerias (so be prepared to wait a little).

The pizza is often assembled upside down, with cheese and toppings positioned at the bottom and sauce on top.

While the origin of the Deep Dish cannot be proven without a doubt, it is widely accepted that the first Chicago style deep dish pizza was invented at Pizzeria Uno in 1943.

We decided to visit the original Pizzeria Uno and Pequod’s Pizza. The original Pizzeria Uno is located downtown, easily accessible for tourists as it is within walking distance of all the major attractions. Pequod’s Pizza is located on Clybourn Avenue, not far from downtown and is completely worth the visit!
