Merridale Farm, Cidery, and Distillery

Vancouver Island, Canada

British Columbia is booming with distilleries and breweries. From craft to larger productions, there is certainly no shortage of delicious drinks! Merridale, on Vancouver Island, is a large apple orchard, cidery, distillery, bakery, and restaurant; and is worth a visit!

Tucked away from the bustle of Victoria, Merridale’s large apple orchard is the source of its cider and spirits. The beautiful farm receives artisanal care, is sustainable, and practices bio-regional conservation and cultural conservation.

Merridale’s most popular product is cider. Made from first press juice only, the applies are picked, pressed, fermented, and bottled at this facility.  Their ciders range from dry to sweet and have a many varieties. Their range includes a traditional cider, a hopped cider, house dry, apple pie, scrumpy and more.

The craft distillery at Merridale began in 2007. All of their spirits have an apple base, are distilled at least twice in copper pots and aged in oak barrels, stainless steel tanks, or glass containers. Some of the brandies have been aged for 10 years!

Merridale also has a bakery and deli featuring BC products, like jams, honey, and apple cider vinegar, and freshly baked bread that is made using the farmed yeast from the apple cider! If you are looking for a proper meal, you can enjoy the Merridale Gastropub for brunch or lunch!

Take a tour of Merridale’s farm, see the pressing process, how and where distillation and fermentation takes place, enjoy a tasting of the ciders and spirits, or sit down to dine at the English-style gastropub overlooking the apple orchard.
