The Philly Cheesesteak
Philadelphia, PA, USA
You can’t visit Philly without trying its most famous food - the Philly Cheesesteak.

Traditionally, cheesesteaks use thinly sliced rib-eye, or top round cuts of beef, served on Amoroso rolls and topped with American Cheese, Cheese Wizz or Provolone.

It’s commonly agreed that the original cheesesteak was invented by Pat and Harry Olivieri in the early 1930s. They originally owned a hot dog stand, but one day decided to make a sandwich using chopped beef and grilled onions. It became so popular that Pat opened 'Pat’s King of Steaks', and it is still in operation today! From there, the Cheesesteak has become an icon of Philly. These days, your option of cheesesteak places is quite extensive.

We decided to try our cheesesteak at 'Sonny’s Famous Steaks', which is located just a few blocks from the Liberty Bell, nestled within the historic streets of Philadelphia. We loved Sonny’s! It is often regarded as a healthier alternative, as they let the beef cook in its own juices instead of adding oil.
