Amsterdam is a charming and populous city in the Netherlands filled with arts, history and culture. A visit to Amsterdam would not be complete without visiting some of the many museums on offer. The Rijksmuseum is a Dutch national museum featuring the arts and history of Amsterdam.



The Rijksmuseum was established in 1800 in The Hague and was moved to Amsterdam in 1808. The museum owns one million objects of art and history, with 8,000 on display. These objects date all the way back from the 1200s to present time.
The Rijksmuseum contains over 2,000 paintings from the Dutch Golden Age. It also has a small Asian collection, the stern of the HMS Royal Charles and a research library, which is considered the largest public art history research library in the country.
Some of the most notable works in the museum include paintings by Phillips Koninick, Johannes Vermeer, and Rembrandt.
