Suitcase Essentials

Here are some must have items in your suitcase, no matter the destination, the length of your trip, or the experience of your travel…

Packing Cubes

Packing cubes are brilliant and becoming more and more popular. They work perfectly as drawers for your suitcase. They come in multiple brands & sizes, making each size and cube perfect for something - a large cube for pants and sweaters, a medium cube for t-shirts, and a small cube for socks and undies. Not only are your clothes compartmentalized, but it becomes very easy to unpack and pack up again. If you are the type of traveler who utilizes hotel drawers, simply take your packing cube out of your suitcase and place it in the drawer. If you are the type who doesn’t find it necessary to unpack your suitcase at all, then you will be amazed by these - no longer will it be difficult to find your favorite shirt! There are a lot of options when it comes to packing cubes. Most travel stores sell them or you can find them on Amazon.

Power Adapter

If you are going overseas, power adapters are a must, as different regions of the world uses different electrical outlets. There are so many options, and it is nearly impossible to know which one is the best choice. However, the simpler the better (we have tried elaborate and expensive multi destination adaptors and all broke within weeks). You don’t necessarily need anything fancy, just a sturdy adapter should do the trick. Also, If you are a loyal Apple user, then it is smart to buy the official Apple World Travel Adapter Kit, or simply, the prong necessary for the location you are traveling to. You can save your regular power adapter for your camera batteries, phone, or kindle!

Toiletries

When it comes to toiletries, you know what you like. If you prefer a specific shampoo/contact solution/moisturizer…  something you aren’t sure you can get at your destination, then definitely bring it with you. But most things are easy to buy once you get there - especially if you want to save weight in your suitcase! However some things, such as contact lens solution, are a lot more expensive overseas. In America and Australia, reputable brand contact solution is readily available at any supermarket or Wal Mart for a reasonable price. In other parts of the world, this isn’t necessarily the case. It may also be wise to pack an extra pair of contact lenses, even if your trip is less than your 2 week or 1 month period.

Medication

If you have any prescription medications or daily vitamins, pack them! Also, get yourself a travel sized bottle of OTC medication, just incase you come down with something! All cities, and especially countries, are different, and it’s way easier to have it and not need it than to not have it and not be able to find it easily. But remember to bring the original packaging - it will save you some time dealing with Customs!

Necessary Clothing

It’s important to check the weather before heading on your adventure. If you're going somewhere warm, then packing should be easy. If you’re heading to Ireland, perhaps a rain jacket is a necessity. If you are heading on a trip full of adventure, be sure to have the proper socks, shoes, and equipment. Basically, if day one you think you might need something, bring it. There isn’t a guarantee you will have the accessibility to get what you left behind.
