Zingerman’s Delicatessen

Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

A trip to Ann Arbor is not complete without a visit to Zingerman’s Deli!

As a small deli that opened nearly 30 years ago, Zingerman's Delicatessen has evolved into an Ann Arbor institution. After just one visit you’ll know why Mario Batali  thinks, “Zingerman’s is the center of my gastro-deli universe.”, Obama believes, "The reuben is killer!” and Oprah said, “On a scale of 1 to 5, I give this an 11!”

Its founders have a serious passion for food, in terms of making it and educating others about good, quality food. In March 1982, Paul Saginaw and Ari Weinzweid opened Zingerman's in a historic building in Ann Arbor. They offered a classic deli menu featuring 25 sandwiches and an extensive collection of Jewish specialties. Today, their menu has increased to over 100 sandwiches, salads, sides, Jewish specialities and more - all made with the best ingredients, like "premium black angus corned beef and pastrami, free-range chicken and turkey, house made chopped liver and chicken salad.” The extensive sandwich collection, coupled with the quality ingredients, makes for some of the best sandwiches in the world! Come hungry, as the portions are generous and the samples are endless!

The deli, apart from having an amazing restaurant, features an "exceptional array of farmhouse cheeses, estate-bottled olive oils, varietal vinegars, smoked fish, salami, coffee, tea and much, much more.”

Samples are handed out freely to anyone for any product. If you see something you might like, or would just like to try, ask a staff member for a sample! Food education is an important element of Zingerman's, and the friendly atmosphere and kind, genuine spirit makes it a pleasure to visit.

As mentioned in the opening, a visit to Ann Arbor isn’t complete without grabbing a bite at Zingerman's! When you are finished at the deli, you can visit the sweet shop next door, Zingerman's Next Door Coffeehouse!
